| CV | Jean trained at Loughborough and Kingston Art Colleges as a designer, with a degree in fashion and textile design and worked as a designer for the clothing industry for some years. She has always painted, but more recently, having completed mixed media courses at Central St Martins, her painting career has taken off. The boundary between representation and abstraction is of particular interest to her. Her image begins with something seen, a building, landscape or object taken out of context, or a particular light. The finished pieces evolve out of a process of continual change and an innate knowledge of colour and composition. Her interest in the two dimensional plane and the texture of the picture surface is evident. Line is essential to her, once the under construction of the painting is in place, she feels she has the freedom to develop the painting as it dictates, using colour to express tone and light.Jean believes art is an extraordinary glance at the ordinary. We should try to readjust our perceptions. Abstract art is about showing the eye what it cannot see. The artist should provide a stimulating point of departure for thought and feeling by giving a strong image to which people can respond, by emphasising, eliminating and clarifying to allow others a fresh viewpoint.
