Welcome

Founded in 1910, Chelsea Art Society is the oldest and sole survivor of the many art groups that blossomed in the area around that period. Rossetti and Turner began the trend to settle in Chelsea in the mid 19th Century, followed by Whistler, Sickert, Augustus John and John Singer Sargent. Amongst the group was Sir James Dromgole Linton, a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and an Honorary member of the Scottish Water Colour Society. He chose Chelsea as the place to found an art group to exhibit annually.

The Chelsea Art Society’s Annual Open Exhibition 2020

We are delighted that this, the Society’s 73rd annual exhibition, will once again be held at Chelsea Old Town Hall, it’s home since 1994.

This being an Open Exhibition artists are all welcome to submit their work on Handing In Day, Monday 15 June 2020. These are selected for hanging by a panel of CAS Members. Between 500 and 600 paintings and sculptures are displayed for sale - selected from more than twice that number. CAS shows not just established artists but younger ones, thus resulting in an interesting variety of artwork on offer.

The high standard of work is reflected in the number of buyers and its prominent position in the Kings Road attracts visitors from all over the world.

Open to the public: from 18-22nd June
Dates for contributing artists: 15-22nd June
Private view: Thursday 18 June
